Similarly to Monday’s trade, the Dow industrial average is closing softly higher. The S&P index is near unchanged quality NASDAQ index is lower.
Looking at the closing levels of the indices:
- Dow industrial average rose by 537.05 points 1.03% at 52752.28
- S&P rose 15.60 or +0.21% that 7428.77
- NASDAQ index fell -55.17 points or -0.22% at 24876.91
- Russell 2000 index rose 5.76 points or 0.20% at 2953.80
- NASDAQ 100 fell -276.08 points or -0.98% at 27763.13.
Although the NASDAQ index is lower on the day, it did erase a decline of -351.08 points at session lows. Chip and AI stocks still suffered as investors continue to be squeezed out after the too good to be true gains seen the first 6 or so months of the trading year. Even so, stocks like SanDisk which tumbled $180 or -14.02% today 363% on the year (closed 2025 at $237).
Other highflyers with similar patterns include
- Marvell lower by -7.8% today but still up 105% for the year
- Intel is lower by -5.56% today but still up 134.62% for the year
- AMD lower by -8.16% today, but still up 112% year
- Nebius lower by -9.8% today, but up 102.62% for the year
- Dell lower by -8% today, but up 211% for the year
- Micron lower by -8.85% today, but up 188% the year
- ARM Holdings lower by -8.11% today, but up 123.9% for the year.
That may be trouble down the road if the decline starts to pick up more steam in that sector.
